Project 2 and Sound

Ok, I didn’t get to this yesterday. I was working on the project and then just crashed and vegged out to a disgusting football game (Cowboys & Eagles … it was bad and I didn’t watch all of it).

Anyway, on my project, I had a good majority of my work done when I went in for the lab hours Sunday night. I got some things cleared up and the basics of my project done. Organization is the big key for me. Writing out that list of all my potential items was a big help. I named all my layers and kept all my graphics / symbols organized on the proper layers.

I’ve gotten better about keyframes within my motion tweens and there are a few things I hope to clean up before I turn in the project.

I chose to do a very simple project since I’m not that confident in my skills. So my project will only have sound affects and music. But I wanted to share with you the resource that I found if you are still looking for just the right sound.

As for the quote… I think being a designer gives you a lot more knowledge into the possibilities and capabilities of those that work for you in the design field. Even if you are not active in the “project” at least you can more easily get your ideas across to those doing the work for you.

I haven’t read anyone’s blog posts yet, but this is my basic understanding from that quote.

Project 2 and Quote

Project 2 is coming along. The more I use flash the more efficient I get at animating. However, a lot of my ideas have been simplified to make the project shorter. All in all I think it is turning out pretty well.

As far as the quote goes, I think it is an advantage for a business owner to also be a designer, but not everyone can be both. Owning a business and being a designer are two very different things. If you aren’t a designer, you should at least try to keep good design in mind when running your company. I would like to start my own business someday and when I do I think the fact that I have a design degree will give me a definite head start.

Project Two and Quote

Project two is going well so far. It is a little difficult, just because I am new to Flash and animation. However, I am having fun animating my characters. In addition, I enjoy adding and playing around with sounds. Hopefully, my project turns out well. I think the quote is telling business people, that they too should be able to create designs and not simply rely on designers to do work. Personally, I want to be an accountant, but I know it is important to always have a sense of how computers work, and maintain a sense of creativity!

as to the quote that business leaders should also be designers i am partial … the idea of people who are educated in the business world taking initiative to understand design as an important element to .. well anything .. is a great idea. but as to them actually being designers i am not sure.

just like business, design is a completely different and elaborate field. It takes a lot of schooling, practice, and understanding to be a designer. plus to be a designer you must look at “life” and the business world from a completely different prospective. So people of the business world should make an effort to understand design more just to gain a better understanding and prospective in their field .. but leave the designing to the people who run that profession ..because if you dont ..well i am out of a job haha.

and as to project two ..i have all my sketches drawn out and scanned into the computer .. i am jsut really working hard organizing them and implementing them into flash to make a solid animation!

project 2 is coming along… slowly but surely. I understand most of what i am doing and its just a matter of keeping up with the tediousness of the project.

as for the quote I agree and disagree. I think for business people to better understand designers it is important for themselves to be designers. I have found with the little experience i’ve had (having an internship over the summer) the corporate world expects a lot out of designers and at the same time the tend to get walked on. I think people in the business world should learn to be designers (not to take over the designers job) but only to understand and appreciate the hard work that goes into it.

Project two is going well. I haven’t really don’t a lot of animation work in flash. I just have built a website in it. So this is a big jump for me. Its a lot of trial and error. And I am learning as I go. Its definitely easy to keep going when you get the hang of things. Hopefully by the end of the project i am happy with the way it turned out.

as far as the quote goes. I disagree with the statement. I think there are roles people play in the work environment. If you go to school for design you should design. and if you are in business then you should practice business. I think it is important to understand each other and what goes into their line of work. So in conclusion i think business people DO need to understand designers. They need to understand the amount of work it takes to brainstorm a concept and make that design and project come to life. and vise versa. Designers need to understand businesspeople, their responsibilities and the work they put into their jobs. But perhaps the only way to do that is to change roles. and for business people to fill the shoes of a designer and become one. as well as designers becoming buisnesspeople.

Project 2 Progress and Quote Reaction

I’ve done pretty well with progress on project 2. I’ve got most of my pictures imported into the project and have designed a smooth intro. The difficulties I’m having are with the sound. I’ve recorded parts in audacity and I needed to redo some of them began to experience errors when importing them. I plan on figuring it out tomorrow and will head to the lab hours If I’m still having issues.

I feel a lot of “beggers can’t be choosers” from this quote. I think the underlying message is that if a business development oriented person is having issues with getting what they want out of a designer they shouldn’t overwork themselves to understand the disconnection between them and the designer, but rather focus their effort in the direction of learning to produce what they need on their own.

Project 2 Progress

Hello all! I am going to be completely honest, I have been busy with projects for other classes + general homework + work and have not yet begun project 2. I am going to start on it Wednesday or Thursday of this week and finish the majority of it this week. I know that is a horrible plan, but I always seem to work better under pressure, I am fully confident in my abilities to finish this project on time.

Part 2: My take on Roger Martin’s Quote “Businesspeople don’t need to understand designers better. They need to be designers.” I completely agree with this quote, designers have excellent ideas and with the state of business, especially the financial sector, the country could use fresh ideas. If businesspeople were all designers, there would be much more innovation and fresh ways of conducting business. Instead of finding new ways to market the same products, we could actually innovate new products and services which actually replace old outdated products. Consider technology…mainly the internet, if it were run like a business, there would not be nearly as many websites and free blogs like wordpress would not exist. If there were not designers, there would probably be no internet and there would not be a large shift to mobile devices. Without designers, the world would still be stuck in the 1950′s or 1960′s, using typewriters or mainly pen and pencils to conduct business. There would be no email, text messaging, instant messaging. People would be forced to actually talk on a phone instead of using it to listen to music or text people. I am glad there is a world full of designers so we have all of these wonderful technologies.

Flash tips

Among the tools in Flash my favorite tips and tricks are the ability to create symbols, in FLash or in other compatible programs and then use them repeatedly throughout the animation without designating too much space to the symbol. In Flash CS4, I find the Motion Editor especially useful. With the motion editor you can edit different attributes of the animation separately allowing a much more convincing and customized animation. WIth the Motion Editor, I like that you can add filter effects as well and physically drag the animation path to continually make adjustments. Other aspects of CS4 I find very advantageous are the Bone tool and the 3D translation/rotation tools.

the key thing i use to simplify my work is copying elements (such as symbols) and keyframe and then just making whatever changes I need to them wheter it be filters to the symbols or changing what is on the new copied & pasted layers and their frames. Two other features or tips I use are saving my work often and using the modify> break apart to allow animation of the pieces of text
